Floating Castle
You probably have noticed what it took a very nice friend to point out to me, and that is my art titles are incredibly boring. Most often, I don’t even title my art when I export it from my art programme. I button mash and live with the consequences. If I do have a named concept for the project I’m working on, it’s most likely a bare-bones description. This piece is a perfect example. It’s a castle. It floats. IDK what you want from me. A good title is like a good salad dressing. It can help you appreciate the piece you’ve created, elevating the different elements and bringing them together for a complete experience. As an artist, I’m just not as great at coming up with good titles. Most likely, I’ll end up doing the artistic equivalent of putting ranch dressing on a fruit salad.
Recently, this same wonderful friend has signed on to be my social media manager, and they’ve brought a new level of creativity to my work that I am incredibly grateful for. Social media is hard, and takes a certain kind of creativity that I feel, like many of the arts, is underappreciated as a skill. In short, if you ever see art pieces out there with clever or insightful titles, it is most likely due to my good friend’s creative touch and talent with words.
This project is one of many that were inspired by the time I was still using social media. (I use it a lot less frequently now.) I was inspired by a lot of artists that would add little fantastical elements or animations to their art, giving it another dimension of feeling and a touch of life. This half-animation, half still illustration is an art form I find enchanting. Is there a name for it? I’m not sure, but I like it. Like many forms of art, I am not the best at it. Animating is hard, particularly when you’re trying to animate a hover effect. Hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to practice more animations in the future 😀

Another one of my attempts (pictured right). I was going to have the separate pieces of the building float at different rates, but again, I’ve never animated anything before. I had no idea what I was doing lol.
