Terrible Tendonitis

While I was working on this project I encountered one of the most feared foes of any artists – hand pain. Since this was only my second children’s book, and I was on a time crunch, I had been working harder than ever and drawing nearly constantly. Inevitably, the result was severe hand pain that still sometimes haunts me when I overdo it. Tendonitis is no joke! During this time I learned a lot about taking care of your body, and also some health problems that are unique to me. Apparently hypermobility and joint pain are common companions – a match made in hell, you might say. Now I do exercises, use support garments, and take more breaks and overall my hands and wrists are perfectly fine. It was definitely a learning curve though! Maybe one day I’ll do a blog post about what I’ve learned about taking care of your artist hands.
